The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Preview Debuts, Unveiling New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voice Cast
Nintendo alongside Illumination released the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. It was showcased in a special Nintendo Direct that highlighted the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
The sequel to the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will send Mario to the outer limits of the universe. There, he will encounter a different royal figure and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.
A Space-Faring Quest Based on Iconic Releases
Much like the games from the Wii period that provide its foundation, Mario will venture away from the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. On his epic voyage, he will meet again some recognizable characters, such as the Luma, a popular character from the first movie.
Yet it looks like Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who seemingly commands metallic abilities. Interestingly, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also features references to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Reprise Roles and Welcome Newcomers
The movie will welcome back of the primary vocal talent, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
Mario's Major Moment
The upcoming Mario film is planned to debut near the 40-year celebration of the first Super Mario Bros. title. In addition to the movie, 2026 looks set to be a significant year for Mario and his friends.
Nintendo has a set of three fresh titles officially announced for the upcoming year, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a latest Yoshi adventure game titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
